No, they're not as cool as light up trainers, but they're close.
I've been wearing glasses since the age of seven, so you can imagine the amount of different pairs that I've tried on and subsequently owned. Today I'm here to write about why I adore my current pair so much
To begin with, they're a beautiful rose gold colour which matches everything I've ever owned.
I'm going to be getting married in glasses in a few years so as I was due an eye test, it was a good idea to go in and choose new frames which I would feel pretty in on my big day. These were exactly what I wanted on that front. However, it's more than that. These are my first pair of UV Transition Glasses.
UV Transition (or Photochromic Light-Adaptive) Lenses.
If, like me, you've heard of these but hadn't ever really given them much thought, allow me to explain what they do. So. We know that UV rays are around us and that they're dangerous, which is why I so rigurously apply 50+ SPF on my face and body as often as I can remember. What we often forget to protect however, is our eyes.
These lenses do just that - and it's so easy. Because photochromic lenses are clear indoors and darken automatically when exposed to sunlight, I often forget that I'm making a good choice for my eyes. I've had multiple colleagues say "you look so suave in your sunglasses" or "those really go with your outfit." It always takes a moment for me to stop myself stuttering "I..'m not wearing sunglasses.." before I remember that I have a very handy 2 in 1 fashion accessory on my face.
For the science behind why these lenses work, All About Vision says 'the molecules responsible for causing photochromic lenses to darken are activated by the sun's ultraviolet radiation.', so as soon as UV rays are present, the lenses will darken.
You might be wondering if they still do their job at this time in the year, and to answer your question - yes. Here I am on my way to a Friendsgiving (November) dinner at my best friend's house, after my lenses had darkened within seconds of me being outside.
In the wise words of Youtuber and Author, Melanie Murphy says:
"If there's enough light for you to see where you're going, to see anything - then there is enough light to affect your skin."
...and the same applies to your eyes!
When you speak to your optician about having these lenses put into your frames, you can choose the 'transition' colour that you want your glasses to change to.
I went for this rose-brown sort of colour because I feel like it gives me a sepia-esque vintage look, which I'm totally all over.
Such an easy (and fashionable!) way to shield our eyes from 100% of the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. 10/10 would recommend.
For any other eyewear enthusiasts like myself, these are the Prada Heritage PR52XV SVF101 frames.
What are your thoughts on Light-Adaptive glasses?! xo
