Last week Wednesday, I got my first tattoo - how exciting!
Let's start at the beginning. If you're someone who wants a tattoo but you're nervous or scared of needles like me, (yes, I still am!), here is my tip. In February, while my best friend was having a tattoo done, I went with them in order to familiarise myself with the artists, what the studio looks like, sounds like, the smells, everything. I still think that was the best thing I did because when I went in last week, I knew exactly what the questions on the form would ask, how the stencilling process works, and everything else that has to happen before anything even touched my skin. Meeting my artist, (Viv from Tattoo Crew London), beforehand was the best thing I could've done because I felt like I was with a friend, not a stranger with a needle - which is especially helpful as I always envisioned myself being unable to get a tattoo without my fiancé or close friend to hold my hand, but I did it!
The only unknown I had on the day was the pain, and it honestly wasn't even that bad - everyone says that it feels like someone scratching you and I hate to join that club - but they're absolutely right. My tattoo only took about fifteen minutes in total, and that was including about five minutes of me taking a break because I felt a little dizzy, which is also totally normal. If you have a lovely tattooist like I did, they'll be totally comforting if you need a break and won't mind becoming your human fan for a few minutes!
I genuinely love it, and it's something that I've wanted for a super long time. You'll notice that my blog banner has the same symbol in it and I made that about 6 months ago. My little lightning bolt reminds me to strike when opportunities arise, and after all of the change in my life which has already happened this year, and everything else that's to come, I definitely need that reminder. Lightning bolts are strong, powerful forces of nature, and so am I. It's also the same tattoo that KatheenLights and some of her viewers (the Light Squad) have and it's super cute to share something with all of them!
