tattoos 23 - 25 🏹

Updated: Apr 27

Hi friends! I went back to the lovely girls at Studio Luna Nova last month and added three more tattoos to my sticker sleeves. We are coming to the end of my tattoo list for the first time since I created it four years ago, which is crazy! I only have two more booked in for this month, and then that's it - at least for the moment, because I'm absolutely certain that I've said this before and you honestly never know with me, (especially since an incredible Bleachers album just dropped, and we get a brand new Taylor Swift album this month, so some of those new lyrics are bound to end up on me - but probably not on my sticker sleeves as those will be pretty much finished this month except for some small remaining gap filler space, eeee!)

1. Caraval Ticket Stub - Stephanie Garber

This tattoo is a sticker which was designed by @thatbookwormgirl on Instagram - I found this design on Reddit, absolutely fell in love with it, and tracked down the artist so that I could ask for permission to have it tattooed - it's so important to be asking permission and purchasing the tattoo ticket/design, so I'm really thrilled that I was able to do this with this one, as there was really nothing else that compared to this when I was scouring the internet for inspiration for my Caraval tattoo. Lucile and I adapted the design a little bit as I have a bit more a minimal tattoo style, and I'm completely obsessed with how unique it is. I finally have my invitation to Caraval, and it will live on me forever.

I first read Caraval in 2017, about a year after its initial release, and have been entirely enthralled by it ever since. I do mean that genuinely, I once dressed up as Scarlett when I went to a friend's masquerade themed birthday party, and basically had my heart leap out of my chest when I tweeted a photo of my outfit to Stephanie Garber and she responded.

I don't read a lot of fantasy aside from Caraval*, and Garber's latest, the Broken Heart series (which features some of the same characters, which is iconic) - I actually discovered Caravel after reading another fantasy novel, which I won't name as I know it's a fan favourite, but it didn't really work for me. I loved the world building and the magic of the genre, but the writing wasn't quite my style, so I went in search of something similar but different, and thus, my Caraval obsession was born. I read the final book of the Broken Heart series at the start of this year, and I loved it so much that it inspired another tattoo that I'll explain later. Both series' are pure magic, and everyone should read them if you're into fantasy/fairytale books. I'll leave you with the Goodreads blurb of the book instead of writing one myself, as I'm currently on my way to go re-read the whole series, brb.

*I wrote this part of the blog post before I became obsessed with the ACOTAR series

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

2. Birth Flower/Archer Tattoo

This is a tattoo which relates to me in multiple ways. I've alluded to it being a tribute to the Broken Heart series which it somewhat is (if you've read the books then you'll understand this, I'm an Eva x Jacks shipper), but it's also a reference to one of the most vulnerable Taylor Swift songs, 'The Archer', which is about anxiety and insecurity, things that I unfortunately deeply relate to. On top of all this, just like Taylor, I'm a Sagittarius so the archer represents my zodiac sign, and to further showcase that, this tattoo has my birth flower (narcissus) wrapped around the bow. I'm in love with this tattoo and all that it stands for. I know I say this about all of my tattoos, but it's definitely one of my favourites. I think it's so pretty and delicate, and I absolutely adore the cutie little coquette ribbon at the top, and the auburn detailing on the bow. It makes me feel both feminine and powerful and I'm in love with it. Maly truly understands me right down to my core, and how special is that!

3. Waffle

This is a silly little tattoo which doesn't have a lot of explanation to it, (it was about time that I got one of those!) While we were in Greece, we ate a lot of waffles, and sang a lot of Waffle House by the Jonas Brothers as their new album had just come out. I bet you can't guess the Instagram caption that this one was posted with! It's adorable and I love it, just look at the little strawberry on it, it's so cute and happy. The level of detail/shading absolutely took me out pain wise, but it looks SO cool, Lucile is incredibly talented, and it was super worth it. As per usual, I'm obsessed.

And that's it until next month! As always, I've popped this into the 'tattoos' category on my blog, so feel free to have a scroll through that if you missed any of my previous rundowns of my tattoos.
