tattoo 26 – heartstopper <3

Hi friends! For tattoo twenty six, which was supposed to be my final tattoo of 2023, I decided to travel to Love More Tattoo in Brighton to get one of Jade’s absolutely stunning Heartstopper flash pieces. This is the tattoo which almost wasn't as I had some train delays to deal with at the end of last year, but it only made me more excited to reschedule with Jade and finally get this tattoo. (Also, don't worry - I spent the original date walking around Sephora and petting cats at Java Whiskers, so it wasn't a day off wasted!)

It was a gorgeous sunny day today so we spent it wandering around cute cafes, art stores, cosy pubs with board games, and eating vegan kebabs! Brighton is a perfect place and I need to visit way more often than I currently do.

I’ve been a huge fan of Heartstopper since I watched Season 1 in April 2022, so much so that I immediately ran out to buy the first 4 volumes of Heartstopper, as well as the rest of Alice Oseman's books which feature Nick and Charlie the next day, as soon as I realised that the show was derived from a graphic novel series. I’ve since read a number of their books, and I highly recommend them all, (particularly Solitaire), but as I said in my Annual Book Favourites in 2022, the Heartstopper series is still my favourite. It's about two teenage boys, Nick and Charlie who discover that their unlikely friendship might be something more as they navigate school and young love.

I knew after watching Season 2 that I was obsessed enough that I wanted a tattoo to honour the series, started looking on Pinterest to find inspiration for what I might want, stumbled across Jade’s flash sheet, and immediately followed her Instagram and waited for her to have a free spot in her books that I could take. Long story short, I’ve been planning to get this one since the beginning of August 2023 and I am so incredibly excited that I have it now, 8 months later!

I chose the image of Nick and Charlie’s hands as it’s a drawing from a chapter page of the graphic novel series, but the addition of the smiley face on Charlie’s hand links it to the show, and I thought it was perfect representation of both. Of course, I also love that the iconic Heartstopper leaves appear in the design too because I knew that I had to have those from the very second that I decided to get a HS tattoo.

If you still haven’t seen or read Heartstopper, I think it’s absolutely adorable, as well as incredibly important, and if you’ve read the graphic novels, you know just how powerful some of the upcoming season three storylines are, and I love the mix of cute, and poignant.

As always, I've popped this into the 'tattoos' category on my blog, so feel free to have a scroll through that if you missed any of my previous rundowns of my tattoos.
