Tarte Review + Glowy Make Up Routine

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

There are two kinds of people during lockdown: those who wear make up as it makes them feel better, and those who are using this time to give their skin a break. I, for better or worse, absolutely love playing with make up. So much so, that I think I've discovered a new everyday make up look. (Also, how adorable are organza sleeves?! I'm obsessed with this top)

Before I get into that, I have to tell you that I've fallen head over heels with the brand Tarte. Over the years, I'd heard amazing reviews of their Tartelette palette, Lights Camera Lashes mascara, Shape Tape concealer and so much else. What actually drew me in enough to make a purchase though is their new maracuja range. Side note: Tarte has the fastest international shipping I've ever come across in my life. 4 days from basket to doorstep. Impressive.

If you're a long time reader or if you know me in real life, you know that I love a sheer coverage, 'my skin but better' dewy kind of look. This is why I rave so much about tinted moisturisers which feature hyaluronic acid because they really do give me that fresh, hydrated glow. The Tarte maracuja range helps me to achieve just that, and it also has so many skincare benefits that it feels like a 2-in-1 product. Intrigued? So was I. (as always: I am a cruelty free consumer so of course, Tarte are leaping bunny approved)

I purchased both the maracuja infused tinted hydrator, and creaseless concealer, which I'd been hearing such good things about that for a while. I go into quite a detailed review of these so feel free to scroll down if you want to skip to my updated glowy make up routine, featuring these and a few other products.

Tarte says that the maracuja tinted hydrator is a 'skincare infused' formula which hydrates for 12 hours, and provides a naturally radiant finish. It is powered by ingredients such as; maracuja oil which brightens, smoothes and hydrates the skin, my personal favourite hyaluronic acid which moisturises, turmeric which helps reduce the appearance of redness, vegan collagen which firms the skin, and aloe flower which heals and soothes.

I apply it with my fingertips (as I do with all tinted moisturisers because I just prefer it!) and I absolutely love the dewy finish of it. It's not a very thick formula so it's super easy to blend out, and it does give me a light, buildable coverage.

On the other hand, the creaseless concealer is the thickest concealer (swatch on the right on my hand, compared to the hydrator) that I have ever tried, BUT I love it because this makes it so full coverage. Again, it makes my skin that bit brighter and smoother.

So that's my take on what I've tried so far from the Tarte maracuja range. I also really want to try the maracuja miracle mist, which is a non-aerosol setting spray which sets your make up for 16 hours. From the videos on their Instagram page, it looks like it leaves you looking fresh and radiant just like the rest of the range does.

Okay so now that I've updated you on my favourite base products, here's what I've been doing with the rest of my make up:

While we've been in lockdown, I've been rediscovering the make up which I've had in my collection and potentially forgotten about. For example. I've fallen back in love with Colourpop Super Shock Highlighters in 'On The Cusp', which has sadly been discontinued. However, I also love 'Wisp', which is quite similar. On the higher end side of things, I also rediscovered the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in 'Spotlight'.

Most often though, I've been loving the Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in 'Blossom Glow', a beautiful pink which I've owned for absolute ages, but don't usually gravitate towards. Turns out it's been one of the highlights (get it?) of lockdown!

Another Wet n Wild product I'm obsessed with is the Bretman Rock Jungle Queen 3-in-1 (prime, set, refresh) setting spray.

It gives off such a gorgeous glow that sometimes I wear it on its own with an entirely bare face apart from lipstick, as in the photo below. I love it!

For the rest of my make up in the first photo in this blog post, as usual, I've been loving:

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Kiko Maxi Ocean Feel Bronzer in 'Natural Sienna'

Colourpop x KathleenLights Ultra Satin Lip in 'Dreamy'

Have you been wearing make up during lockdown? If so, what are your favourite products to use right now? xo
