High End Haul: Charlotte Tilbury

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

Some resources to educate yourself with...

Charlotte Tilbury is a brand which I've had my eye on for a long time. The gorgeous rose gold capped products, the promise of glowy yet somehow natural-looking skin which her make up items create - it ticked all of the boxes for me. However, I am fully aware that this is a high end brand - the items feel luxurious and you absolutely pay the price for that, and for the Tilbury name.

That being said, I recently discovered three products which I thought were worth reviewing. Read on to find out whether I would re-purchase!

  1. Hollywood Flawless Filter (I wear Medium 4)

I slept on this product for the longest time, because I really didn't understand what it was meant to do. Is it a primer to be worn under make up? A liquid highlighter to be applied on the high points of the cheeks? Turns out, it can be worn however you want to! I mostly wear it all over my face by itself with nothing else on top when I want to look naturally dewy. If this product had SPF in it, it would be the perfect all-in-one. It's a very steep £34, but I can say I adore it. Even when I do wear it as more of a primer and apply tinted moisturiser on top of it, the glow does shine through and I really love the radiance that it provides. I'm not sure how I'd go back to a make up routine without it! The details on the box promise that it 'soft focuses, perfects and illuminates for a dewy flawless superstar youth glow'. Here is a video of me wearing it without anything else on my face - do you think it lives up to its claim?!

2. Hollywood Beauty Light Wand (Spotlight)

I've actually been using this product for the entirety of lockdown, so it's my oldest Charlotte Tilbury product, whereas the Flawless Filter and Magic Cream only made their way into my collection at the start of June. This is essentially a liquid highlighter with a soft sponge tip which you apply it by twisting to activate and squeezing the tube. I have to say that while I do really like it and the sheeny glow it creates - I can probably achieve the same look for much less than £29, which I do think is very steep for such a small amount of product. This is definitely one where you pay more for the name. It's gorgeous, but I won't be repurchasing. Here is a photo of my entire face of make up done, with the Magic Cream, Flawless Filter as a primer, and the Beauty Light Wand on my cheekbones.

Side note: I also tried out matte eyeshadow for the first time on this day - I used the BH Cosmetics 'Take Me Back to Brazil' Pigment Palette which is absolutely gorgeous, and while this isn't high end so doesn't count towards this haul - I would recommend this purchase!

3. Magic Cream Light

I picked this up mostly because I had heard such incredible things about this little container of SPF 25, pollution and blue light defence, 'lightweight miracle moisturiser'. I absolutely could not bring myself to buy the full size which costs a ridiculous £75! I bought the mini version for £50 less, and I'm kind of having mixed feelings about it. I love that it has SPF, (although I wish it were a higher factor, 25 is far too low), and that it protects against blue light, but it doesn't do anything spectacular in my opinion. I like the feel of the product as it's quite oily/satin-like which means that whatever I place on my face next (usually the Flawless Filter), applies really beautifully on top of it which, yes, is rare for a SPF but still not enough to warrant the price. A few posts back in my 'Skincare Favourites' post, I spoke about the Simple 'Triple Protect' Moisturiser which also protects against blue light/pollution, and has a higher SPF factor, so I would recommend that again over this.

To sum up: I probably won't be spending a lot more of my coin on Charlotte Tilbury, but not because the products aren't good. They're stunning, however since I've shopped from the high street for majority of my life, I think I've discovered products which work for me and don't hurt my pockets quite so much. I will continue to purchase the Flawless Filter though because it does seem like it will last me a long time even though I use it most days! A win.
