Calligraphy Part 2 ft. folklore

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

Important Resources:

Two of my favourite things are brush calligraphy and Taylor Swift's incredible music. Recently, these two things fell together perfectly when Taylor dropped her stunning new surprise album 'folklore', which I've been listening to on repeat ever since.

I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to try out experimenting with 'bounce' while brush lettering some of my favourite lyrics from the album.

When I first started learning brush calligraphy (almost) 3 months ago now, I found 'bounce' to be one of the most difficult things to do. If you have a look at my first 'Learning Brush Calligraphy' post, you can see that much of my writing was lined up and all of the letters were the same height and width. Lettering does look much more beautiful when there is a mix of high and low letters, and I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of this.

Here is a non-swiftie example of what 'bounce' looks like. My Mum requested that I do this quote for her, as it's by one of her favourite poets. I really enjoyed doing a requested piece, so if you're a fan of my lettering, let me know if you have suggestions!

As you can see from the cover image, as well as lettering some of my favourite 'folklore' lyrics, I also managed to ask my fiancé to do a woodland fairy style photoshoot in our back garden. This was incredibly fun, and I highly recommend it!

I spent about 3 hours creating these brush lettered lyrics, and then had great fun photographing them in pretty places of our garden. I'm absolutely obsessed with both the album, and with my developing lettering skills, especially now that I am finally getting the hang of bouncing my letters. I had so much fun making these, and I'm so proud of them.

Here are 10 of my favourite lyrics for your enjoyment!

Which is your favourite song/lyric from the album?! xo
