Aw, Dip! Yay or Nay on SNS?

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

Anyone who knows me knows that I've been a nail biter all my life. I don't think I even had a reason for it, like those of us who are nervous or stressed nail biters. I've just never had any nails, and I didn't like my hands because I was always trying to hide how battered and chewed they were. During a girly catch up/pamper day, myself and a friend tried SNS dip nails for the first time, and it's safe to say that I'm in love with them.

(B.Q: purple square nails, the pink rounded nails are mine)

The whole experience of having SNS nails done is so pampering. I love flicking through all of the pretty colour examples, and arriving at one that I'll adore for the next 3 - 4 weeks. From start to finish, it's so much fun to have your nails filed, (especially when they use the electric file), shaped and dipped to the colour of your dreams.

Because SNS nail extensions sit merely on the tip of your nails, they are reported to be much less damaging than acrylics to the natural nails underneath, which is always a win.

I've found that my natural nails grow out quite beautifully while I'm wearing my SNS extensions. For the first time in my life, I was able to feel confident with my own nails. A full 'gro up'. Pictured below.

However, I know that we have all heard the warnings saying that because the cuticles are pushed back during application, it can be easier for our nails to become infected. This hasn't happened to me, so I can't personally speak to this - but my top tip is to have an awareness of how the nail technicians work. Mine are meticulous about cleaning work spaces/equipment before it is used on me, and prepping my own nails so that they are insanely clean before they are dipped. I've heard way more positive stories than negative so go ahead and treat yourself!

Here are some more photos (I've chosen to have the "almond" shape in these!) to evidence my ongoing obsession with SNS. I'm in love, and will continue to match my nails to my engagement ring, and outfits for upcoming events.

Everyone has something in their pamper routine that gives them that extra little boost of confidence. This is mine.

If you do want to try out SNS nails for yourself, I would recommend booking on Treatwell. If you leave a review after your appointment, they treat you to a lovely £5 off code for next time! Who doesn't love a bargain?!
