august favourites

sooo... august really did slip away like a bottle of wine, didn't it? Here are my top five (with an honourable mention) favourites from this month - some are old favourites which I've rediscovered this month, and some of them are genuinely very new to me, and I'm excited about both sets alike. While I'm writing this intro, I will also let you know that there will not be a blog post next week as Stephen and I will, (finally!), be on our minimoon in Devon for a week. I have to say that going away in September feels so cool to me after spending majority of my 20s being a teacher assistant or being a trainee/teacher and having the September Scaries every year - totally feels like rebelling to go away during the time where everyone else is going back to work and I love it. In no particular order, here goes:

1. Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter (in Shade 4, Medium)

I bought this last year, and I’m pretty sure that I wrote about loving it at the time, but I kind of just forgot about it until recently when I saw someone on TikTok mix it in with their tinted moisturiser to make it a little more glowy and radiant, which isn’t how I was using it – I was either wearing it alone for some naturally looking dewy skin, (which was nice, but it did wash me out a little bit), or I was using it as a liquid highlighter, which you absolutely can do too but for me and the wow factor that I like, it was just a bit too subtle for me – but using it mixed in with my Urban Decay Tinted Hydrator, it’s a dream which makes me look lit from within, and I love it. I do sometimes still use it as a liquid highlighter, and paired with the cream blush below, it really does give me such a beautiful glow.

2. ColourPop Blush Stix (in ‘Shell Out’)

Speaking of dewy, glowy skin, I absolutely love this product, and especially this coral pink colour. This is actually my first cream blush, and I really like the formula. It really is as easy as just drawing a few stripes on your face with the stick and then blending it out with your fingers. It doesn’t remove any of the make up on my face underneath it at all, and it just blends in seamlessly, leaving a really cute summery colour behind. I really recommend this one!

3. Fourth Ray Beauty Thirst Aid Moisturiser

While we’re speaking about ColourPop, I’ll mention one of my favourite new products from their sister brand, Fourth Ray Beauty. I have spoken about my undying love for their hyaluronic acid dewy range before, and I did recently repurchase their ‘skin quenchers’ kit, and I’m pretty sure they’ve sized up with the products which makes me incredibly happy, (photos below for comparison), – their 2% rainfall HA serum absolutely saved my skin when having Covid totally dried it out. Anyway, this is just me saying that I already knew their stuff was good, but back to the moisturiser. I really like the texture of it as it’s quite thin, and feels very water-based so it does provide some really great ‘slip’ for thicker products to sit on top of it, and not make them seem cakey. Definitely does provide the hydration it claims to, and I really like it.

4. It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara

I recently ran out of my trusted Too Faced ‘Better than Sex’ mascara, and felt like trying out something new. My goodness, it is such a shame to say it but it is still incredibly difficult to find good cruelty free make up that is good, and doesn’t break the bank. I did my research, and in the end, I was between this one and the Fenty Beauty ‘Full Frontal’ Mascara, but I went with this one as I remember it being raved about by beauty Youtubers a few years ago, and I’m glad I bought it because while it is pricey at £22, I feel like it’s worth it because it lengthens so, so well and that’s mainly what I love in a mascara as I have very short lashes. They make my eyes look bigger due to the long, spidery lash effect it gives. These 4 products are basically what I use every single day, with or without tinted moisturiser and I'm really loving having an easy, fresh looking make up routine.

5. Philosophy - Cinnamon Bun Shower Gel & Bubble Bath

I bought this because I saw it on Lucy Jane Wood’s Instagram story and I was absolutely influenced by the scent of it – I mean, I know it’s still Summer but it’s never too early to smell sweet and a little bit Autumnal. It is such a gorgeous scent, I’ve only used it once at the time of writing as it only just arrived, but I was overwhelmed by the warm, rich cinnamon scent, and I like that it’s quite a big bottle as it was pricey at £15, but we all deserve a treat every now and then. Also, please note that even though the bottle says that it can be used as a shampoo, I won’t be doing that as I’m not sure if it would be great for me as I have coloured hair, so I use the Pureology Hydrate range, which I swear by and I know works for me, but let me know how it is, if anyone does wash their hair with it! Honourable mention to the ‘Vanilla Birthday Cake’ scent, which is much more subtle than the cinnamon bun, but it is still very nice and sweet.

What were your august favourites? xo
