Anniversary Idea: Recreating our First Date

For mine and Stephen's six year anniversary, our first one as a married couple, we thought that it would be fun to attempt recreating our first date which was (just over) six years ago. We had our first date on October 17th 2015, but didn't actually become official until November 6th, so our anniversary was last week but the date we were basing it off of was actually a month earlier. I go into London quite a lot with my friends but because Stephen so rarely does, it was really fun to take him back to our past haunts.

Here is a photo of us from this year, and one of us sat in the exact same spot six years ago!

To begin with - and this isn't mandatory - I tried to wear a similar outfit to the one I wore when we first met. I am not a sentimental clothes hoarder so I don't still own the top I wore then, but this cropped corset top from Oh Polly was the most similar thing in my current wardrobe, and it is quite comparable so it's fun to see how my style has both evolved and stayed the same in the past six years.

We travelled into Covent Garden in search of hot chocolate, (if you didn't know, that's how we met - I was very passionate about Costa hot chocolate being the best of the chain coffee shop hot chocolates, and Stephen had never tried any of them except Cafe Nero, so we decided to go hot chocolate hopping - wow, please don't drink every time I say 'hot chocolate' in this post)

Stephen now agrees that Costa is, in fact, the best, but we go there quite a lot nowadays anyway for cute little dates when we haven't seen each other much, (I work until 4pm and he leaves for work at 5pm, so a train station Costa is sometimes the best thing ever), so we decided to actually go back to where his first love of hot chocolate started: Cafe Nero.

After this, we went to Pasta Brown which is a gorgeous Italian restaurant which we just happened to walk into our first date - it definitely looks a lot more romantic now than it did then, as to my memory, I just remember it being a super cute little bistro, but the food is still absolutely delicious and it is still walk-in only and there is never a queue, so it's definitely still as underrated as it was then, and I highly recommend going if you're ever in Covent Garden. The staff are so lovely, and they even gave us a free dessert as a super sweet 'thank you' because we offered to shift ourselves down a table so that the family of 8 could have our booth, since we were almost at the end of our meal anyway.

As for our first date, all we did after this was continue trying hot chocolates, and then talked for hours on a bench on the waterside, so that's what we did this time, too - except not before going into Milk Train for ice cream, (yes, another dessert), as one of my best friends took me here a few years ago and I loved it, but Stephen had never been. If you have not been here, please go! The flavours are gorgeously decadent, and the decor is so pretty - if you're lucky enough to go when it's quieter, it always makes for a great photo opportunity.

Speaking of which, we found so many pretty places just by strolling around this time - I'm not sure if they're new, or if we just hadn't seen them before, but I loved finding all of the cute corners to take photos. We ended our night with a drink from Lost Alpaca, and then made our way back to Reading for a takeaway pizza and a few episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which I started rewatching a week ago and I've already finished it, but the amount of nostalgic serotonin that I got from it was off the charts - if you're a 90s kid, you need to rewatch it.

It was so much fun recreating the day we first met, and if you're looking for something different to do with your significant other, I totally suggest doing this.

I also made a cute tiktok of our day here which you can watch if you'd like!
