an ode to my love of Luke and Lorelai - tattoo 16

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a lovely start to the new year. I, of course made sure to start off 2023 by ensuring that I had some time booked in with some of my favourite people over at Studio Luna Nova. This is a tattoo that has been on my list for a long time, and I'm so incredibly excited that I have it now, especially since it was done by Viv, the absolutely lovely artist behind my very first tattoo back in 2020. It was so special to have another tattoo done by her three years later, because it's such a testament to the fact that she made my first tattoo experience so incredible that I've continued to go back. I really feel like someone's first experience can either lead to them never getting a tattoo again, or ending up with loads. Basically what I'm saying here is that Viv (@vivcrogstattoos on Instagram) is an icon.

*this post will feature spoilers for season 4 onwards of Gilmore Girls, including A Year in the Life.

So. Anyone that knows me knows that my favourite thing on this entire planet is Gilmore Girls, which makes sense since this is the third GG tattoo in my collection. It's also the biggest tattoo I've ever gotten, which is why it's taken me so long to work up the courage to get it, but I'm so glad that I did because I am in love with it. This tattoo is the outline of Luke and Lorelai slow dancing during Liz's wedding in Season 4. It's a big turning point in their relationship and it also gave us the iconic 'Luke can waltz'. (If you've seen the show, I already know that you just said it in your head the way Lorelai does because so did I)

This tattoo is actually a combination of a few images from the scene, which Viv did an incredible job of creating for me. I wanted to be able to tell that they're slow dancing, as well as it to be zoomed out enough that you can see the fairy lights on the gazebo in the background, and I also wanted Luke to be looking at Lorelai. This exact frame doesn't exist in the show, making it totally personal to me, which I think is the coolest thing ever. Tattoos are literally so much fun, honestly.

The song they're dancing to is 'Reflecting Light' by Sam Phillips, which is such a beautiful song and it's also the song we signed our wedding certificate to, so it's incredibly special to Stephen and I as a couple, aside from it being in the cutest scene in Gilmore Girls.

Spoiler alert for if you haven't seen A Year in the Life yet: it's also the song that the pair get married to in the revival, so we definitely stole that from them but anyways!

I've always loved the look of outline tattoos, and I think this scene is just the cutest ever so I had to get it. Lorelai wearing a flower crown makes this scene incredibly recognisable, which is why I chose to have it done in colour. This is my second black and white tattoo which only has one tiny bit of it done in colour, so it's slowly becoming my thing and I really love that.

It's on my right thigh which I think was appropriate for my largest tattoo because I remember that my left thigh tattoo didn't really hurt at all. This one took about an hour and a half, (including a break in between before adding colour, so that I could stretch my legs!) On the pain scale, it was so incredibly low apart from the brief moment where we returned to add colour after the break because my skin had definitely started to relax by that point and then it realised we weren't done, lol!

I am so absolutely in love with the fact that I will now have my cosy, comfort characters on me forever, and I think it's so special that Viv did my first ever teeny tiny lightning bolt tattoo three years ago, and is now the artist behind my sixteenth and largest tattoo. It's gonna be so fun showing it off in the summer!

As always, I've popped this into the 'tattoos' category on my blog, so feel free to have a scroll through that if you missed any of my previous rundowns of my tattoos.
