Advent of Change

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

This year is the second in a row where I have received something a little more special to me than chocolate, every day in December.

I first found out about the Advent of Change calendars through Youtuber and Author, Niomi Smart, when she mentioned the company in a vlog last year (2 mins in).

The way that Niomi described the calendar entirely sold me on the idea of it. The calendar costs a mere £16.95, and for that amount, every single day, you open one of the doors and it tells you how that money has been spent to help a certain charity.

On the company website, they say 'In 2018 we launched our first product - an innovative charity advent calendar, and it went on to raise £100,000 for 24 amazing charities, changing lives all across the world!' They have now launched a completely new range which includes a 2020 wall calendar, tote bag, pin badge, and even a braille version of their Advent of Change calendar.

I cannot put into words how much joy it brings me to know that I have helped a different charity, and potentially changed a life every day this festive season, supporting issues ranging from 'feeding the homeless to protecting our oceans and protecting endangered animals'. The charities are invited to use the money in any way that they wish, but reading some of the wonderful examples shown on the calendar are enough to warm anyone's heart. The calendars are also entirely eco-friendly, as they are fully recyclable and use FSC assured paper, vegetable oil based inks and plastic-free, compostable film. They really have thought of everything.

Please enjoy the following collection of photos where I show you the charities that my donation helped this year.

I hope that this post has inspired you to either buy a cute sparkly birthday banner for yourself (as seen on photo 6 here for my birthday), take yourself down to a pottery cafe to paint a glorious Christmas tree like mine, or most importantly, to support this incredible company.

That isn't to say that I haven't eaten a lot of chocolate this Christmas period, because I certainly have. I'm just also saving the world at the same time...
